Abstract A flow system, based on multicommutation and binary sampling, has been developed for improving the automated spectrophotometric determination of carbaryl with p -aminophenol (PAP) in order to reduce the waste volume and to preserve the maximum analytical performance. Indirect spectrophotometric determination of p-aminobenzoic acid in sunscreen formulations by sequential injection analysis

Abstract A simple indirect sequential injection spectrophotometric method for the determination of the UV-filter p -aminobenzoic acid (PABA) in sunscreen formulations is proposed. The determination is based on the reaction of PABA with hypochlorite in acidic medium and the subsequent measurement of the residual chlorine by using the well-known reaction with o -tolidine. Recent developments in flow-analysis vibrational spectroscopy

Abstract This review deals with developments in the new century on the use of vibrational spectroscopy techniques for detection in flow-injection analysis (FIA) systems. To provide a picture of the evolution, highlights and future developments in this field, we revisited Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), in the mid-IR and near-IR ranges, and FT-Raman spectrometry applications using different approaches, from classical FIA to modern (sequential injection analysis (SIA) or multicommutation). We used the analytical abstracts database for 2000–06 for the literature search, but we based this review very much on the experience of our team in this field.
Application of sequential injection analysis to pharmaceutical analysis.

Sequential injection analysis is a well established tool for automation of pharmaceutical analysis. A short historical background of this technique is given as well as a brief discussion on the basic principles and potentials. The current applications of SIA in the pharmaceutical analysis are also described and discussed. The manifolds developed offer good analytical characteristics and are suitable for analysis of drug formulations, process analysis, drug-dissolution, drug-release testing and functional assays for screening potential drugs. The results obtained are in good agreement with those furnished by the application of the reference methods presented in the pharmacopoeias.

Abstract A review is presented on the state of the art of the chemiluminescence analysis of pharmaceuticals by the two most relevant automated controlled-flow methodologies—flow-injection analysis (FIA) and sequential-injection analysis (SIA). The current chemiluminometric applications of FIA and SIA in pharmaceutical analysis are discussed with special emphasis on the analytical figures of merit and sample matrix characteristics. The review involving 211 references and covering papers published between 2001 and 2006 is divided into several sections according to the fundamental types of chemiluminescence systems employed.
